‘Terrortory’ Streaming on Amazon for Free Through October

Kangas Kahn Films will premiere its newest horror film Terrortory for free from October 1st – October 31st on Amazon Prime. The film will be available to stream in Germany and the United Kingdom also.

Terrortory is an anthology horror film in the vein of Creepshow and “Tales From The Crypt”. It features six horrific tales set in the mythical region of Maryland known for an abundance of strange happenstances and urban legends.

It stars a large cast including Johnny Alonso (Coffin”, “Gotham), Melissa LaMartina (Call Girl of Cthulhu), Bianca Allaine (Albino Farm), Maddie Howard (Ping Pong Summer), Nadia White (Milfs Vs. Zombies) and more.
“We’ve been amazed at the response we’ve gotten so far from putting some of our movies on Prime. We had more than a million minutes streamed in the first nineteen days, and passed two million minutes in just over a month,” said director Kevin Kangas (‘Fear of Clowns’), who adds that premiering the film on Amazon Prime is a perfect way to get the movie out to as many people as possible in the quickest manner possible. “We can let a ton of people see the flick without signing any lengthy contracts that tie up our rights for years.”
After October 31st the film will be available for streaming but most likely won’t be free, says the director. All of their movies can be added to a watchlist through this link. Once added to a watchlist, the movies can be viewed on any web-enabled device. Terrortory will be available to be pre-added to the watchlist in late September, and will show up in the viewer’s watchlist when it’s available to stream.

Jared Harris Boards AMC's Scripted Anthology 'The Terror'

NEW YORK, 30 September 2016 – AMC announced today that Jared Harris (Mad Men, The Crown) has been cast as the lead actor in the network’s anthology drama series, The Terror, an adaption of the bestselling novel by Dan Simmons. David Kajganich (True Story, A Bigger Splash) and Soo Hugh (The Whispers, The Killing) are serving as executive producers, writers and co-showrunners with Scott Free, Emjag Productions and Entertainment 360 producing the series in association with AMC Studios. Production begins this winter in Budapest with the 10 one-hour episodes set to premiere in 2017. AMC Global will premiere the series exclusively within minutes of broadcast on AMC U.S. across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.

The Terror is set in 1847, when a Royal Naval expedition crew searching for the Northwest Passage is attacked by a mysterious predator that stalks the ships and their crew in a suspenseful and desperate game of survival.

Harris will play Francis Crozier, Captain of the HMS Terror and second in command of the expedition. He is a brilliant sailor and captain, but an Irishman who has reached his glass ceiling in the British Royal Navy and has become disillusioned with its pomp and politics.

Additional casting includes Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones, Rome) as Sir John Franklin; Paul Ready (Cuffs, Utopia) as Henry Goodsir; Adam Nagaitis (Houdini and Doyle, Suffragette) as Cornelius Hickey. All will play integral members of the crew aboard the ships. Tobias Menzies (Outlander, Game of Thrones), who was previously announced, rounds out the casting as James Fitzjames, a member of the Royal Navy.

“The story of man’s battle with nature and an unknown predator makes The Terror a gripping and imaginative series, and calls for a special kind of actor,” said Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV. “We are thrilled to expand our relationship with Jared Harris and look forward to watching him transform into the complex and fascinating character of Captain Crozier. We are also delighted to work with this versatile and talented cast to share with audiences the despair and horror inside this journey of survival, hope and recognition.”

Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse 2015 - REVIEW

Zombies, zombies, zombies! Anybody with a crappy camera and some ketchup thinks they churn out an entertaining zombie flick. Of course, maybe if those people had a $15,000,000.00 budget, they might be more successful. Until then, please stop and think... the horror movie world is so oversaturated with drooling, dead things that it's almost impossible to find a good one. Enter the scouts...

Three scouts, Ben (Tye Sheridan), Carter (Logan Miller) and Augie (Joey Morgan) head off to the woods for a night of celebratory fun. Augie is getting a scout award from Scout Leader Rogers (David Koechner) and he wants his best friends to be there for his special moment. Only problem is, Ben and Carter have decided that they are too old to be scouts and want out but they don't know how to break the news to Augie on his special night. When they are unexpectedly invited to the "cool kids" party, Carter convinces Ben to ditch Augie during the night and go. Of course they're busted by a betrayed Augie who tells them to go leaving him alone since Rogers was a no show. Against his better judgement, Ben leaves. Along the way, they stop to change clothes and notice the bouncer from the strip club is suspiciously absent and decide to go in. Along the way they meet Denise (Sarah Dumont), a former classmate turned cocktail waitress, and It doesn't take long for them to realize that zombies have taken over and the town has been evacuated leaving them alone to try and save the day.

It's a refreshing change to see a movie that never takes itself too seriously. Writers Carrie Lee Wilson, Emi Mochizuki and Christopher Landon break all the rules when it comes to zombies but it definitely works in their favor. They managed to take all those "zombies can't do that" things and incorporate them into the film without overdoing it. They've crafted a funny, entertaining movie full of sex jokes, zombie tits, vulgar behavior, an odd Dolly Parton obsession and a horde of zombie cats. I mean c'mon... ZOMBIE CATS! It's a ridiculously juvenile movie that will make you laugh and cringe at the same time (all you men out there will know what I mean after you watch it).

Filmmakers these days rely so heavily on CGI that nothing is done by hand anymore and I always appreciate a movie that goes out of the norm and uses practical effects. Scouts effectively mixes the two creating some pretty spectacular gore. The film is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but it is clever and it is fun. Another reviewer called it American Pie meets Shaun of the Dead and I can totally get behind that description. With a talented cast at the helm, I'd have a hard time imagining any genre fan not finding it entertaining in some way. Plus they have guys that scream like girls and who doesn't like that?? One thing is for sure, once the film gets going, watch out for the whiplash because it is full on balls to the wall all the way to the end and it is a fun ride! Definitely check it out and come back to let us know what you think.

Supernatural Bosses on How They Come Up with New Stories

Over the course of 11 seasons, Supernatural has delivered 241 episodes filled with different monsters, mysteries, and of course, motels. But the biggest mystery of the show remains: How do the writers keep coming up with new ideas?!

“We really take great pains to not retread things,” executive producer Robert Singer tells EW. “Obviously we give nods to our past mythology, but we really want to be cognizant that we’re not telling the same story over and over again. Because that wouldn’t be fun for the audience and it’s not fun for us.”

So when it comes to finding new inspiration, showrunner Andrew Dabb says, “It begins in two places: There’s the character place and the plot place. How can we evolve these characters? We’re living in a world where Sam and Dean have changed a lot over the course of 11 seasons, and where do you take them that feels natural but also feels like new ground? Specifically, this season, Mary becomes a springboard toward interesting character growth for both of them. That’s the character place, that’s leaning heavily on what’s come before, who these people are.

‘The Strain’ to End After Season 4 on FX

Currently in the midst of its third season, “The Strain” will return with Season 4 in summer 2017, marking the final set of episodes for the thriller from Guillermo del Toro, Chuck Hogan and Carlton Cuse.

Ending the series after four seasons was a creative decision made by the producers, according to a statement released on Tuesday by Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, presidents of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions, and another statement from Cuse, who said the original intent was for “The Strain” to last only three seasons.

“We sincerely thank Carlton Cuse, Guillermo del Toro, Chuck Hogan and their creative team as well as the fantastic cast for three exciting seasons of ‘The Strain.’ Though we’re sad to see it go, we fully support the way in which they are crafting the fourth season’s dramatic conclusion,” said Grad.

Cuse commented: “It is a true joy to work at FX where creative intentions always comes first. Our original plan was for the series to last three years. Once we began telling that story it expanded to be more. After finishing the writing on season three, Guillermo, Chuck and I looked at our remaining story and felt the best version could be told in one more season. We have a fantastic plan for an exciting and climatic season four. We are deeply grateful to FX for supporting our vision and for allowing us to end the show on our own timetable.”

“The Strain” debuted in July 2014. Based on the best-selling trilogy of the same name by Del Toro and Hogan, the series stars Corey Stoll, David Bradley, Kevin Durand, Jonathan Hyde, Richard Sammel, Natalie Brown, Miguel Gomez, Max Charles, Ruta Gedmintas, Rupert Penry-Jones, Samantha Mathis and Joaquín Cosío.

Cuse serves as showrunner, executive producer, director and writer. Del Toro and Hogan are writers and exec producers, along with other EPs Gary Ungar, J. Miles Dale, Bradley Thompson and David Weddle. FX Productions is the studio.

The third season is currently underway, airing Sunday nights at 10 p.m. Season 3 will conclude on Oct. 30.

Herschel Gordon Lewis Dead at 87

By now, most of you have heard... Horror filmmaker Herschell Gordon Lewis, known as the “Godfather of Gore” for his bloody exploitation movies that launched the splatter genre in the 1960s with films such as “Blood Feast” and “Two Thousand Maniacs,” died Monday at 87.

The Something Weird Video site announced his death.

“Blood Feast,” made in 1963 in Miami, was considered to be the horror genre’s first splatter film. Variety called it a “totally inept shocker” that was “an insult even to the most puerile and salacious of audiences,” with a “senseless” screenplay and “amateurish” acting.

His films supplied grindhouse cinemas and drive-ins with titles including “A Taste of Blood,” “The Wizard of Gore,” “The Gruesome Twosome,” “Scum of the Earth!” and “She-Devils on Wheels.”

Beginning in the 1960s, his early films with the late producer David F. Friedman were skewed toward soft-core erotica. Lewis’s other films also took on subjects that were taboo at the time including the birth control pill “(The Girl, The Body, and The Pill”) and wife-swapping (“Suburban Roulette”).

He took a lengthy break from directing after 1972’s “The Gore Gore Girls” to work in direct marketing but returned in 2002 with “Blood Feast 2: All U Can Eat,” which included a cameo from a longtime fan, John Waters.

In addition to being a filmmaker, Lewis taught college literature, worked in radio and produced and directed TV commercials. He wrote several books on marketing and copywriting.

#Horror 2015 - REVIEW

A lot of our readers ask, "Hey GW, why don't you and J.R. review movies much anymore?" Well, I can't speak for him but I'm gonna answer for myself now so listen carefully... Back when I started reviewing movies, if you wanted to see an indie film, you pretty much had to know someone who knew someone and so on just to get a copy of it and they were GOOD! You could see the time and effort put into each and every story and the production and the characters. Now, it's a struggle find the good ones. With so many self proclaimed filmmakers out there, horror has become a joke. No one takes it seriously, no one. Not the the filmmakers, not the critics and certainly not the audience. Independent film used to be where the magic was but now it's become boring and predictable and the more I watch, the less I WANT to watch. Now you guys got me rambling. Let's move on.

Case in point, here is the synopsis for #Horror from IMDb... Six preadolescent girls, Sam (Sadie Seelert), Georgie (Emma Adler), Sofia (Bridget McGarry), Francesca (Mina Sundwall) Cat (Haley Murphy) and Ava (Blue Lindeberg) face a night of terror when the compulsive addiction of an online social media game turns a moment of cyber bullying into a night of insanity.

Misleading the audience with inaccurate plots seems to be all the rage today. Getting it a bit off is one thing but flat out getting it wrong is another. Other than some emoticons flashing across the screen and some implied picture postings I saw nothing that indicated there was a "game" being played. In fact, half way through the movie, all the girls put their phones in a safe so they would actually be able to interact with each other. Why I don't know because this was the most detestable bunch of girls I have ever seen in a movie. They made Mean Girls look like a day at the park. Believe me, there was plenty of bullying, but it wasn't really cyber bullying so that is definitely misleading. There is no depth to #Horror. It's not a social experiment and it doesn't shine a light on anything other than my growing disgust for Indie horror.

The cast performances were decent despite the ridiculous dialogue and amateurish character development done. It seems to be a common thing these days to make every single character in your film so unlikable that the audience doesn't give two shits whether they live or die. Fans of horror want someone to root for; we NEED that final girl/guy who's strong willed and doesn't give up no matter what regardless if they make it in the end or not. And Timothy Hutton, oh Timothy, I am so displeased that someone so seasoned could read this script and say, "YES! I need to be a part of that!" I hope he was well paid because there is little doubt that he will get a career boost out of this one.

Ultimately, there is nothing redeeming about this movie. #Horror is just #horrible and I would not recommend it to any hardcore horror fan. If you do attempt to watch this, prepare yourself for 80 minutes of preteens busting each other down just to bring each other back up again over and over and over again mixed with some very questionable parenting tactics then 10 minutes of I don't even know what.... horror mess? I don't know... save yourself the time and do something different like take your dog to the park or have your pubes waxed. At least in the end, you'd have something to show for your time.

Holidays 2016 - REVIEW

I have never been a fan of anthologies. I always feel like I spend an hour and a half watching and end up hating the majority of them. However, I put it out on Twitter and asked for suggestions for films to review and thanks to @evildeadron this is what I was given. So, I grabbed WAY too many snacks, climbed in bed and started watching. Imagine my glee (not really) when I realized there were eight short films to get through. This is what I do to myself lately, I prejudge every movie based on plot and usually end up convincing myself that it's not worth watching and reviewing instead of just getting it done. Hang on to your shorts, this will be a pretty long review... eight freaking films....

Valentine's Day (written and directed by Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer) starring Madeleine Coghlan, Savannah Kennick and Rick Peters.

A teenager with a crush on her gym coach is bullied by the rest of her classmates, but an innocent Valentine's Day gesture leads to horrific results.

This one was one of my favorites. The acting was good and the film was very well done. It touches a bit on quite a controversial subject these days, school bullies and succeeded in making me hate Kennewick's character Heidi. Which is hard to do in just the few minutes they have to tell the story.

St. Patrick's Day (written and directed by Gary Shore) starring Ruth Bradley, Peter Campion and Isolt McCaffrey.

A young teacher learns the frightening truth about the legendary snakes of St. Patrick when a student makes her deepest wish come true, with a sick twist.

I had a hard time getting through this one. Once they introduced the whole snake thing, I zoned out because it was just too over the top for my taste. The dialogue was comical and there just wasn't enough time to really tell a story so by the end I was wondering what in the hell I just watched. The only positive thing about this segment was Isolt McCaffrey; she played her little creepy part to a tee. There is something so unsettling about a kid that just sits and grins at you.

Easter (written and directed by Nicholas McCarthy) starring Ava Acres, Petra Wright and Mark Steger.

A young girl who wakes up and sees the Easter Bunny arrive is in for a shock.

This is another one that successfully told a complete story in just a short amount of time. While it wasn't one of my favorites, it was still entertaining. The makeup effects for the bunny were very well done and I'd be curious to find out if he was supposed to come off as creepy or pervy because at certain points, they drew a pretty fine line as far as intent is concerned. Regardless, interesting story and different twist on the myth of the Easter Bunny.

Mother's Day (written and directed by Sarah Adina Smith) starring Sophie Traub, Aleksa Palladino, Sheila Vand, Jennifer Lafleur and Sonja Kinski.

A woman who can't stop getting pregnant finds herself involved with a coven of barren witches after attending a strange ritual.

I am not a fan of this one at all. It suffers from the same problem that many short films do, half a story. We're given so few details about this "coven" of witches that while watching, I never got the feeling that that's what it was. Yes, there was some weird shit going on but I never got a witchy vibe. Unless I missed something, which is quite possible. Please feel free to let me know if I did.

Father's Day (written and directed by Anthony Scott Burns) starring Jocelin Donahue, Michael Gross and Jana Karan.

A teacher receives a mysterious cassette tape from her long-estranged father that leads to a darker mystery. The answer for why he disappeared may not be what she expected.

After watching, I'm still not sure why he disappeared. Again, another incomplete story that leaves you with more questions than answers.

Halloween (written and directed by Kevin Smith) starring Ashley Greene, Olivia Roush, Harley Quinn Smith, Harley Morenstein and Shelby Kemper.

A man running an internet sex cam business finds himself in dire straits when he crosses his employees on Halloween.

I have never been a fan of Kevin Smith... I know, I know, most think he's some kind of God but I'm not one of those. BUT, give me some credit here, I watched and gave it a chance but I still didn't like it. Other than one of the characters being in costume and a mention or two of it, I didn't see how it really related to Halloween but whatev. The acting was good and it was well shot but that's about the only good things I can say about it.

Christmas (written and directed by Scott Stewart) starring Seth Green, Clare Grant, Kalos Cluff, John C. Johnson, Shawn Parsons, Michael Sun Lee, Wes Robertson, Karina Noelle, Scott Stewart and Richard DiLorenzo.

A man goes to terrible lengths to get a virtual reality device for his son for Christmas, but finds himself haunted by it.

This story, I quite enjoyed. It was kind of like an extreme horror version of Jingle all the Way. Admittedly it wasn't actually horror, it was more of a thriller but at least it was a full and complete story that was well shot and well acted.

New Year's Eve (written by Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer; directed by Adam Egypt Mortimer) starring Lorenza Izzo, Andrew Bowen and Megan Duffy

A disturbed young man discovers that his New Year's date may be just as twisted.

Another one of my favorites with a nice twist at the end. It was a refreshing change from the usual serial killer plots. Again, the film was well done and well acted.

Overall, I was pleased with this anthology and would recommend that any horror fan give it a go. If you've already seen it, feel free to let me know what your favorite segment was!

Don't Breathe 2016 - REVIEW (By Glen Peddle)

Hello twisted ones. I have come here to Twisted Central to chew bubblegum and talk about the new Fede Alvarez feature, Don’t Breathe. And as you have probably guessed, I did indeed run out of bubblegum.

I had seen the trailer about a month before the movie’s release, and while it seemed promising, the real reason I wanted to go and watch it was because of Jane Levy. She was the highlight of the Evil Dead remake for me, and I knew I’d be following her career afterwards.

So here’s the plot in brief. Rocky (Jane Levy), her boyfriend Money (Daniel Zovatto) and friend Alex (Dylan Minnette) have been breaking into selected homes around Detroit to make some money and, in the case of Rocky and Money, leave the city behind and head to California. They learn of a Vietnam vet (Stephen Lang) who is sitting on a pile of money after a settlement involving the death of his daughter. Add to that the fact that he’s blind, and it seems like too big an opportunity to pass up. As you can imagine, things don’t go quite as planned.

Apparently, Don’t Breathe was Fede Alvarez’s response to criticism of his Evil Dead remake being an overly gory shockfest. And while I tend to find such criticisms bothersome, this time they were used constructively. Don’t Breathe is a well-acted, tension filled ride that, once the three thieves enter the house, doesn’t let up. There are some jump scares sprinkled throughout, and a couple of them are pretty cheap, but the rest are at least relevant to what’s going on in the main story.

There were some minor nitpicks that, in the grand scheme of things, didn’t ruin the movie, but kind of made me figuratively scratch my head. For one thing, the blind man not immediately hearing the noises the thieves were making sort of surprised me. Granted, he had a television playing in his bedroom, and his house is locked and barred exceptionally well. But assuming that his other senses were heightened due to blindness, and that he should be very paranoid considering the secret he’s keeping in the house, you’d think he’d be a somewhat lighter sleeper and more alert to any noises.

Also, it was kind of hard for me to root for anyone in this. Rocky is the one you want to win the day as far as her motivations go, but in the end she is still a criminal who will even rob from the blind. So I was kind of torn there. I even felt a little sympathy for the blind man. I obviously can’t condone his actions, but the reason he became the way he is sad and it’s easy to believe that a person could turn out the way he did.

You have to suspend disbelief in some regards to things that happen, like the previously mentioned noises made that the bling man didn’t immediately catch, the fact that he just happened to have a perfectly cut board for the one unprotected window used to break into the house, a chloroform bomb that Money used not working, and the blind man’s sense of smell working and not working at times only convenient to the plot, just to name some examples.

But as I already mentioned, these nitpicks overall didn’t affect my enjoyment of this film. If you want to spend the better part of 90 minutes sitting on the edge of your seat, then Don’t Breathe is the way to do it. It gets an easy 4 out of 5 stars from me. Go see it if you haven’t already.
