The Disco Exorcist and Mold! Now Available on Collector's Edition VHS

New York, NY - Wild Eye Releasing, one of the first genre labels to embrace the retro format, is excited to announce that two of their best-selling titlesare now available on VHS as part of their ongoing partnership with neo-VHS pioneers Horror Boobs. Richard Griffin's The Disco Exorcist and Neil Meschino's Mold! have been released as limited collector's edition VHS tapes and VHS/DVD combo packs with exclusive new art.

From the makers of Murder University and Exhumed comes this blood, boob and bellbottom-soaked tribute to 70s exploitation sleaze that Twitch calls "Brutal, Blasphemous - a howl from start to finish." Rex Romanski is a 1970s disco swinger who loves and leaves the wrong woman - the wicked black magic priestess Rita Maria. And now it's up to Rex to undo the scorned Rita's rampage of revenge, murder and destruction before she claims more lives, and possesses the soul of the woman he loves.

Neil Meschino's Mold! is a gloriously gooey take on 1980s sic-fi horror classics like Street Trash and Night of the Creeps. A classified government project is underway to create a new weapon - a fast-growing strain of mold designed to wipe out cocoa fields - the only problem is, this mold also feeds on human flesh. And when the murderous mildew is mysteriously released in a secret lab, it wages its own war on a group of unsuspecting scientists and military officials, who are forced to fight their way to safety while trying to contain the mold before it is unleashed on the world.

About Jack Thomas Smith:

Jack Thomas Smith made his feature film-directing debut with the psychological thriller “Disorder.” He was also the writer and producer of that film. “Disorder” was released on DVD by Universal/Vivendi and New Light Entertainment. It was released on Pay-Per-View and Video-On-Demand by Warner Brothers. Overseas, it screened at the Cannes Film Festival and the Raindance Film Festival in London. Curb Entertainment represented “Disorder” for foreign sales and secured distribution deals around the world.

Born in 1969 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Smith lived there until he was eight when his family relocated to a quiet island community in Michigan, which would later serve as the inspiration for his upcoming film “In the Dark.” He began to write at a very young age after reading the Stephen King novels “Salem’s Lot” and “The Shining.” By the time he was eleven, he had written a 300-page novel and a number of short stories.

Smith’s family moved to Sparta, New Jersey when he was a teenager. It was there in that middle-class town that he discovered the films of George A. Romero, Stanley Kubrick, Brian DePalma, and John Carpenter. Inspired to make movies, he wrote and directed a handful of short films that were shot on Super 8mm and starred his brother and friends in all of the roles.

As a young adult, Smith produced films for noted horror directors Ted Bohus and John Russo, co-creator of “Night of the Living Dead.” From that point on, it was only a matter of time for his growth as a filmmaker to expand.

Smith’s current project he calls “Infliction” is a dark and disturbing assembled footage film that documents two brothers’ murder spree in NC and the horrific truth behind their actions.

Smith’s production company, Fox Trail Productions, Inc., is currently developing the action/horror film “In the Dark”, the drama “Illegals”, and the comedy “Ties that Bind.”

Call Girl 2014 (Short Film) - REVIEW

I recently attended Horrorhound Weekend in Cinncinnati, Oh where they were screening movies all day for 3 days.  Among one of them was a short called Call Girl.  I however did not get a chance to view it (had to be in line for a Bruce Campbell photo op).  The director Jill Gavargizian was gracious enough to send me the screener and let me view the short film.  Having heard nothing but good things from this film I was more than excited to finally be able to view this.

"In one man's attempt to exploit his date night via video-chat, he ends up sharing something far more disturbing". - Official IMDB Synopsis

It truly amazes me how some short films are able to fit so much of a story in such a small amount of time.  Call Girl is only just over 5 minutes long but 5 minutes is more than enough time to tell this story.  The film itself is like looking through a webcam, which I kind of liked.  We are the audience and we are seeing this mans date with a call girl as it is happening.

Probably the strongest point of this film is the 2 stars of the film: Laurence Harvey, and Tristan Risk.  Laurence Harvey is famous for Human Centipede II and Tristan Risk played the brilliant Role of Beatress in American Mary.  They are both accomplished actors and the job they do in this is nothing short of fantastic.  I would give Call Girl 7 out of 10 stars.  Definitely a short that you need to see.  Stay Twisted Everyeone!

American Cinematheque Honors Lloyd Kaufman, Michael Herz and 40 Years of Troma Entertainment

New York, N.Y., March 24, 2014 - Greetings from Tromaville! We invite you all to join us this Saturday March 29, 2014 as the prestigious American Cinematheque will be honoring 40 years of Lloyd Kaufman, Michael Herz, and Troma Entertainment with an evening of tribute paying homage to the films of the legendary director at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, California beginning at 7:30pm.

The four Tro-mazing films selected to be showcased are:

THE TOXIC AVENGER

1984, Troma Entertainment, 87 min. Dirs. Michael Herz, Lloyd Kaufman.
When nerdy janitor Melvin falls into a vat of nuclear waste, he is suddenly transformed into a mutant superhero who lays waste to evildoers of all kinds and becomes a savior to his town. The first of Troma's anti-corporate satires, THE TOXIC AVENGER is still one of the best - and most popular, having spawned multiple sequels and spin-offs. Co-director Lloyd Kaufman's message, however, is firmly buried under some of the most spectacular gore and slapstick comedy ever put to celluloid. 2014 celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the "Toxic Avenger!"

CLASS OF NUKE 'EM HIGH

1986, Troma Entertainment, 85 min. Dirs. Richard W. Haines, Lloyd Kaufman.
A high school located next to a nuclear power plant serves as the setting for one of Troma's most outrageous and hilarious features, a gory, post-apocalyptic satire about teenagers whose sex yields a gang-fighting monster after they smoke some radioactive pot. As always, co-director Lloyd Kaufman sets out to shock, entertain and enlighten in equal measures with a movie that balances an environmental message with sex, drugs and exuberantly graphic violence. Troma's 1986 cult smash-hit has been discovered by younger audiences and reached a new "atomic high" in popularity since the release of "Return to Nuke 'Em High: Vol. 1" this year.

TROMEO AND JULIET

1996, Troma Entertainment, 104 min. Dir. Lloyd Kaufman.
Shakespeare's classic gets Troma-tized, courtesy of director Lloyd Kaufman and screenwriter James Gunn. The bard's young lovers are transposed to a modern day Manhattan, where Kaufman and Gunn largely stick to the original play's structure but infuse it with liberal helpings of sex, violence and profanity. The result is one of Troma's best films, a movie that USA Today described as "sexy, sweet, and surreal." The eclectic cast includes scream queens Debbie Rochon and Tiffany Shepis, Troma star Will Keenan and even Lemmy from Motorhead as the narrator! Body Piercing. Kinky Sex. Dismemberment. All of the things that made Shakespeare great!

RETURN TO NUKE 'EM HIGH VOLUME 1

2013, Troma Entertainment, 85 min. Dir. Lloyd Kaufman.
Volume 1 of Lloyd Kaufman's sistine chapel is also his first film shot on digital. "Return to Nuke 'Em High: Vol. 1," a hybrid sequel/reboot of the original "Class of Nuke 'Em High", returns to New Jersey's Tromaville High School, where the first film's neighboring nuclear power plant has been replaced by the Tromorganic food-processing plant. When glee club members mutate into violent Cretins after eating tainted tacos, blogger Chrissy (Asta Paredes) and her girlfriend (Catherine Corcoran) realize something rotten is going on at Tromorganic. The first installment of this KILL BILL-style two-part epic oozes with the distinctive mix of goofy gore, soft-core sleaze and low-budget special effects that has endeared Troma to their legions of fans for decades. "Return to Nuke 'Em High: Vol. 1" has been selected by the Museum of Modern Art as part of their prestigious Contenders Series, an annual collection of the year's most influential, innovative films that are believed will stand the test of time. "Return to Nuke 'Em High: Vol. 1" continues to play in front of sold-out crowds worldwide and winning over critics, a trend that started at the Cannes Film Festival.

Come out for a once-in-a-lifetime event and celebrate Troma's 40th Anniversary and the career of Lloyd Kaufman. There will be a Raffle of Tro-Mazing prizes including an Official "Toxic Crusaders" Animation Cel, the only of it's kind. Participate in a crowd-interactive Q & A session with Lloyd Kaufman and special guests. Pick up all of your favorite Tro-Merchandise at the Troma table and meet Lloyd Kaufman, himself, for FREE Photo Opportunities and Signings on all Troma items. Get your tickets today, this won't happen again!

The Crime Thriller "White Pig" has moved into shooting phases - PRESS RELEASE

Writer and Director David Noel Bourke, production company Angel Films and LEP Studios have started shooting the Nordic noir crime thriller White Pig. Loosely based on the Anders Breivik Massacre, the story for White Pig involves a series of grisly murders and one officer’s pursuit of justice. White Pig stars Marie Louise Wille, Gerard Carey Bidstrup, Julie R. Ølgaard and Jannik Jensen. Now, the first trailer for this exciting thriller has been released!

The story of White Pig is shown through two pairs of eyes. Initially, the story begins with Jens (Bidstrup), seemingly a very pleasant, normal guy but hiding a sordid past. He turns to murder when his fear and paranoia of foreigners become stifling. Then, the story shifts to Mia (Wille), who is a police officer tasked with finding a mysterious killer’s identity. Mia finds herself at risk and in dangerous territory as she gets closer and closer to the truth. Fear and justice will meet in the back alleys of Copenhagen, Denmark.

Director David Noel Bourke is no stranger to thrillers. Recently, he released the dramatic thriller No Right Turn in 2009. But now, Bourke is turning to more controversial material in his latest film, White Pig. Bourke looks at what creates a mass killing, a killer’s motivations and at the victims, who are left behind. Top 5 Horror Films of 1983

I figure before Horrorhound Weekend starts and I am running all around Sharonville convention center I would share my picks for 1983.  This was not a hard year to choose from at all.  There are plenty of choices don't get me wrong the quality of horror in this year is just not great.  It is also one of the few years that Friday The 13th did not have an entry in the 80's.

There is a lot of criticism about this movie but I actually think it's pretty solid.  Not near what the first 2 installments were but really not a bad movie.  I mean really how can you go wrong with a movie with Lea Thompson in it ?

I was never a big fan of the actual TV show of The Twilight Zone but I do enjoy the movie a lot.  It's loaded with stars of the early eighties and just a fun movie to watch.  I guess you could argue that this is not really horror but more of sci fi but it's close enough.

Yet another gem by John Carpenter and one of my favorite films of his.  I admit I actually just watched this movie last night.  It really is one of those movies that never gets old to watch.

The sequel to Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece.  Anthony Perkins reprises his role as Norman Bates and is released from the mental hospital.  He seems better at first but things start to go back to "normal" very shortly.

I can't have a list of movies in 1983 without Sleepaway Camp.  The sleeper hit of 1983 with one of the most shocking endings in cinema history.  Also happens to be one of my favorite movies

Official Press Release: Spencer Gray’s THE BORDER

Official Press Release:

Spencer Gray’s

THE BORDER

MUFX artist turned Writer/Director Spencer Gray’s new horror film The Border will be independently financed with private investors and a unique crowd funding campaign that will go live online via Indie Go Go April Fools Day 2014.

Why is The Border’s crowd funding campaign set apart from the others?

Writer/Director Gray had this to say:

“The horror genre is almost dead and the big studios are the collective villain. Today’s genre films are missing so much heart and originality it’s almost made me stop watching horror entirely unless it’s from a foreign market or truly indie. As Alfred Hitchcock, the Master of Suspense, so eloquently put it, ‘There is no terror in the bang, only the anticipation of it.’ That’s what is missing. Not to mention people enjoy being scared. The goosebumps. The hairs on the back of your neck standing on end. The heart racing with anticipation. The gore. Those are just a few things missing in today's horror films and why fans will always embrace the classics.”

The plot of The Border is as follows: “When the granddaughter of a U.S. Senator goes missing near the border of Mexico, former Black Ops agent Jack Barrabas is forced out of retirement to find her. Every path he takes, secret he uncovers and body he drops leads to a secret, mysterious door in a small border town. What he finds behind this door will forever change the world, and who he thinks he is, for the worse. You will never recover from what lies beyond THE BORDER.”

Associate Producer Rob Bedard commented: “I like seeing people wondering what is really going on in a world this big. The secrets which are buried beneath the complete lies of every day people. This film got my attention because it'll make people dig deep into the truth and hopefully change the way they think and what they believe.”

The Border is a character-driven story that is structured to bring back the Fright Factor and throw out all the typical genre trappings. Producer and indie filmmaker Jeremy Mitchell added: “Audiences will be in for a treat as the story is original, and not a rehash of tired, dead storylines that is all too common in today’s market. Not to mention, people’s basic fascination with the unknown will be dying to know what is behind that door! You’ll never figure it out and we want to keep it that way. Only myself and the director know at this point, even cast and crew are in the dark and that’s fun!”

Why Indie Go Go?

Gray had this conclusion: “So we could tell the story we want to tell without interference from The Suits. I don’t want somebody telling me I can’t do this or that or make me cut it to pieces because it’s not commercial. I also refuse to dumb anything down because horror fans are not dumb. It doesn’t matter if it’s Rob Zombie or Wes Anderson, people love the idiosyncratic. All they (The Suits) want to do is make movies, not good movies.”

The Border already has an amazing cast and talent pool dedicated to discovering what’s behind that door:

Starring martial arts master Richard Ryan (Dead Men, Honorless), Katrina Matusek (Xtraction, Cathedral Canyon), Eileen Dietz (The Excorcist, Helter Skelter), Noel Guglielmi (Training Day, The Dark Knight Rises), Melantha Blackthorne (Captured Hearts, Order of One: Kung Fu Killing Spree), Amanda Marie (The Town That Dreaded Sundown, Dracula’s War), Troy Johnson (Vertical), hip hop sensation Wyzae and many other icons from the horror and action genres. It will also be the genre debut of alternative model Sebrina Bedard.

Beware!

April’s Fools Day is sooner than you think!

Jessica Cameron's New Film Utero Wraps on Principal Photography - PRESS RELEASE

Writer/Director Bryan Coyne’s (Harvard Park and Incarnate) new horror film Utero wrapped
principal photography this week in Los Angeles. The entirety of the movie was shot in Los
Angeles and was independently financed by Coinopflix. Jonathan Higgins and Jessica Cameron
(Truth or Dare) produced the film with former Platinum Studios executive Richard Marincic
(Cowboys and Aliens, Dylan Dog: Dead Of Night).

The plot of Utero is as follows: “an agoraphobic unwed mother who finds her psyche unraveling
as she becomes convinced that her unborn child is more monster than human.”

Utero is a character-driven story that is structured in a similar fashion of the horror films of
yesteryear. Audiences will be in for a treat as the story is original, and not a retread of storylines
that is all too common in today’s market.

Director/writer Coyne had this to say about the movie:

“Shooting Utero was a dream come true for me. Like any filmmaking experience it was a
grandiose challenge. But the commitment of our crew and cast, a wonderful commune of pure
artists, helped me achieve something astoundingly effective. I can't wait for this film to be seen.”

Upon completing principal photography, Cameron commented:

“I could not be more thrilled with the amazing production that has been Utero. The story,
camerawork, and lighting, is all so impressive and fresh. I cannot wait to share this with
audiences!”

Top 5 Horror Films of 1982

Continuing with the list 1982 has 5 more great horror films to add to the equation.  Well, actually 1982 has more than 5 great horror films like any year but we are only doing 5.  In this year we have an evil house  making a return, an iconic hockey mask be donned by a deformed killer and silver shamrocks.

We start off with another great slasher film of the early 80's.  I just saw this movie last year and completely loved it.  I mean how can you not love a movie with Julia Montgomery.  For those of you that don't know her by name she is Betty from Revenge of the Nerds.  I also have to mention the always enjoyable actress Rutanya Alda.

This is my favorite entry in the Amityville franchise.  This is actually a prequel the the original and in my opinion is a way better movie.  It has a great cast with the standout being a young Diane Franklin.  This movie has mixed reviews from horror fans but I really enjoyed how dark and downright evil this movie was.

Friday the 13th Part III is not my favorite of the Friday franchise but I will say I have probably watched this one more than the rest.  The story itself is full of holes but I really like the cast in this one and of course the look of Jason in this film.  To me Richard Brooker has been the best Jason.

This is another movie that has horror fans divided.  Some really love it and it has a pretty big following but to some this movie was terrible.  Mainly because it had the title of Halloween and there is no sign of Michael Myers, Dr Sam Loomis, or Laurie Strode.  A movie that took an entirely different direction.  I a huge fan of this film and think it would have done alot better just being entitled Season of the Witch.

My #1 of 1982 is the classic slasher film Slumber Party Massacre.  This Roger Corman classic is one of my favorite films of all time.  At a time when everyone was trying to leave their mark in the horror world this one stands out above the rest.  Maybe not as much publicity as a Halloween or Friday the 13th movie but is a solid slasher all the same.

TheEvil Easter III 2013 (Short Film) - Review

The world of horror has many followers and many film makers alike.  Not all of the film makers are able to break into the business with a feature film right away.  Short films are a good way for any future film maker to get into the business and get their name out there.  You never know if you're short will be turned into a feature film or if it will lead to bigger things.  There are so many great short films that are produced every year.  It is virtually impossible to catch them all but I am lucky enough to catch a few that always impress me.

Alice (Adelin Jonasson) becomes the unwilling instrument in a 70-year old Nazi-plot to take over the world and usurp Christianity with obscure Germanic Gods. (Courtesy of IMDB.com)

I really did not want to give too much away from this one with a long synopsis, after all it is a short film. The Evil Easter III is a bit longer than most shorts.  It runs a little over 40 minutes from start to finish which is almost too long for a short but is not near long enough to be considered a feature film.  Really what I think is the most amazing thing about this is it was shot for what translates to $200.00 in the United States (it was shot in Sweden).  Having said that, the way they made this you would never know that it was such a small budget.  You can definitely tell that it is low budget but I have seen movies that cost 10 times that amount not be able to pull off some of the stuff these guys were able to.

As far as the story goes I assume you all are wondering what the other 2 movies are about.  Well I would like to know that too.  You see they made this before they made the original 2 which I think is kind of a unique approach, almost something you would expect from Quentin Tarrantino.  Being pretty impressed with this film I would have to rate it 6 out of 10 stars.  I know I can be a little bit stingy on my star giving but you guys will just have to deal with that.  Stay twisted everyone!

Diabolique Magazine Launches Petition for Classic Hammer Films

Diabolique Magazine has started a petition to ask Warner Bros to release their Hammer Horror titles on blu-ray, fully restored for optimal quality. WB’s Hammer titles represent the British company’s very best output, and for many reasons, including cultural and historical, we believe these films should be restored and released in the new digital medium without delay.

Unfortunately, the trend for big studios is to release the same small group of films that they deem big moneymakers, over and over again, instead of releasing their classic film library. Supporting this petition is a vote for classic films in general, because it is getting harder and harder to get these films out, properly restored to High-Def. Classic cinema needs all the help it can get!

Our goal is 10,000 signatures by April 30th, 2014! So far, we’ve gotten tremendous support from fans all over the world and from genre media. In just the first 4 days, we passed the 2,000 signature mark, and we’ve been informed that WB has already taken notice. We believe this is a very important petition and we are asking you to cover it as a feature story. We are, or course, available for interviews.
